Crowns
A crown is a restoration that covers or caps a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. Its purpose is to strengthen and improve the appearance of the tooth. Crowns can:
- Restore teeth when there isn't enough tooth structure remaining to provide support for large fillings.
- Attach bridges or protect weak teeth from fracturing and restore fractured teeth.
- Cover badly shaped or discolored teeth, or cover dental implants.

Sealants
Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting the teeth against decay-causing bacteria. The sealants are usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay occurs most often.

Fillings
Fillings are placed directly into a prepared cavity in a single visit. The most commonly used filling materials are dental amalgam (silver) and resin composite (tooth colored).

Dental amalgam has been used by dentists for more than a century. It is the most thoroughly researched and tested restorative material among all of those in use. It is durable, easy to use, highly resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive in comparison to other materials. Composite fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth colored filling. Composite fillings provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small to mid-size restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure.

X-Rays
Many diseases of teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen when your dentist examines your mouth. An x-ray exam may reveal:
- Small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings)
- Infections in bone
- Periodontal (gum) disease
- Abscesses or cyst
- Developmental abnormalities
- Some type of tumors

Cleaning
There are three main types of cleaning performed in our office. Patients that have regular dental visits and have the normal amounts of plaque that form within 3-6 months between cleanings, receive a Prophylaxis cleaning. Patients that: have not had a cleaning in a few years, do not have any buildup under the gums, receive a Full Mouth Debridement. Patients that have never had a professional cleaning or have not maintained after receiving periodontal cleanings may need a Scaling and Root Planing (also called a Deep Cleaning). This is done by numbing the gums and cleaning below the gum line and is usually done in two visits.

Root Canals
Root canal treatment is done to treat problems of the tooth's pulp. Years ago, teeth with diseased or infected pulp were removed. Today, root canal treatment can safely save a tooth.

Extractions
Extraction or having teeth removed may be necessary for different reasons. The decay may have progressed and caused large damage, so that the tooth may no longer be saved. Sometimes a tooth can be broken to such a degree that it cannot be repaired. Extractions are also done when gum disease has caused severe bone loss resulting in an unstable tooth. Some are also done to create space for orthodontic (braces) work.

Bridges
Bridges replace missing teeth with artificial teeth, look great, and literally bridge the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Bridges help maintain the shape of your face, as well as alleviating the stress in your bite by replacing the missing teeth.

Implant Restoration
Once implants are placed, it has to be restored with crowns or bridges, depending upon the situation.

Partials
If there are many teeth missing, and the teeth remaining are not strong enough to support a fixed bridge, a partial denture may be recommended. It consists of a removable metal framework with several porcelain or plastic replacement teeth attached. It must be removed at night when sleeping.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry is performed when there is no structural problem with the tooth itself, but may correct minor imperfections. Cosmetic dentistry may help boost confidence and brighten your smile.
